As the weather turns colder, don’t forget to take care of your mouth. Follow our simple tips to avoid some of the more common complaints.
Cold Sores
To prevent cold sores, use skincare products with an SPF of 15 or higher, and wash your hands frequently. Try to avoid touching your mouth as this can spread the virus.
Chapped Lips
The wind and sun can soon dry out your lips. Invest in a good quality lip balm and reapply it frequently. Make sure it has an SPF of at least 15.
Canker Sores
Canker sores or mouth ulcers can develop if you eat foods that are very acidic or spicy. To soothe a mouth ulcer, make a warm saltwater mouth rinse by dissolving a teaspoon of salt into half a cup of water. This relieves some discomfort and speeds up the healing process.
Tooth Sensitivity
Breathing in the colder air can be enough to make your teeth tingle. If tooth sensitivity is a real problem, it’s worth booking a checkup with us here at Tendler Dental, in case the sensitivity is caused by an untreated problem like tooth decay or gum disease. Otherwise, try using toothpaste for sensitive teeth, but be patient as you must use it for several weeks to get the full benefits.
