Jaw Pain- Popping
This condition is called ‘temporomandibular joint disorder’. Basically, the hinge that connects the upper and lower jaw isn’t working properly and as a result, the jaw, muscles, ligaments and soft tissues can become very painful. This will affect chewing and yawning; your jaw may pop or even lock. Causes of TMJ include grinding or bruxing of teeth, excessive gum chewing, clenching and jaw thrusting.
Different treatment for TMJ pain is available. Occlusal splints are often made for the patient to alleviate muscle pain, heat pack therapy is sometimes beneficial as well.
Our dentists here at Tendler Dental have all the advice you require for TMJ pain or bruxing problems.
